Exploring light reflecting materials through designing a dynamic light painting instrument.

I wondered if I could construct…an instrument to create dynamic light paintings.
Through this project, I research various light reflective materials and engage in an iterative design process. These are my light painting experiments.
Material Play
An exploration of light-reflective materials and their visual impact in light paintings.
Second Instrument
A redesigned instrument that incorporates more light reflecting materials, improves artist safety, and holds greater visual impact.
TO PAINT WITH LIGHT —
The Light Painting Experience
To paint with the instrument, the artist places it in a dark room in front of the desired canvas. Treating the flashlight as a paintbrush, the artist then continuously moves the flashlight across the instrument’s glass surface. The canvas is filled with colorful, sculptural, ever-changing light.
